I have had this kettle for a few years now and it works well, never had an issue with it and I use it A LOT, at least a few times a day, every day. HOWEVER, I noticed recently that the mesh on the little filter had disintegrated and there were only a few fibers left on the plastic filter frame. I guess all that fibrous mesh has now been ingested by me, my family and friends; not much I can do about that now but please keep an eye on your filters and Oster should consider changing the material to something that won't degrade so quickly. I have never seen this happen before and am honestly disgusted. I will keep using the kettle without the plastic piece because the little thing works well. For this reason alone I wouldn't recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It works surprisingly well! I bought this today, and couldn't be more impressed. It lights up automatically when you use it. It also shuts off on its own. The temperature control is great for tea or other uses. The filter also prevents some steam and heat loss.

I bought an Oster electric kettle, a few years back, and it’s been great, but now I’ve noticed that it’s starting to leak at the base of the viewing glass. I’m sure it’s still good for a few more years, but I can’t have it leaking. Model#BVSTKTVT01-33A. Any suggestions?

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Need spout filter I see that other people also need a new spout filter after the old one disintegrates. 3 years ago the response from Oster was that it was not currently available which implies it will be available in the future. Well, its been 3 years Oster, is a filter available now or do I really have to throw out an $80 kettle because I cannot get a $2 filter?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from "Designed to last . . . " (ha, ha, ha) That is Ostler's claim. Maybe for a year or two then you need to buy a new one - planned product failure. I hate to sound like an oldie but the simple electric kettles of years ago would last (not literally) for ever.
